Good Morning

We finally woke up about 9 this morning.  Levi is doing well.  I just left meeting the neonatologist and they have ordered a head and spinal ultrasound.  We will know more when this is finished.  Amy is in there now with a good friend visiting while she nurses.  I am about to lay down for a little longer.  I will send out another update before we go to bed tonight.  Feel free to give Amy a call.  We do not have TV in the room and our eyes are still crossing when we try to read.  330-344-2724 0r 1-800-221-4601.

What a night!

It is hard to believe that we got here 36 hours ago.  Levi is in stable condition in the special care unit of Akron General.  It is actually run by Akron Children’s Hospital; so, he is technically a patient of theirs.  It was about an hour before we heard any report.  He is not free and clear yet, but things look good.

They were unable to get him to breathe.  It took several minutes and they had to place him on oxygen (now he is breathing fine on his own).    There are also a few other problems.  He did not have a great deal of muscle tone, but that has gotten better; his jaw is underdeveloped (it kinda makes him look like he has an overbite), and they are worried about the movement in his eyes.

Tomorrow the neonatologist (I’m not sure if that’s how you spell it) will examine him and a neurologist.  They said we will just take one day at a time.  As of now, he will stay in the special care unit, but upon evaluation, they may move him to the campus of Akron Children’s or let him stay with us.  The nurse said that Amy would most likely be discharged on Monday morning, but it looks like Levi could be here a little longer.

After our long wait, we were able to go see him, and he was actually able to nurse!  God was very good in this.  We are sitting in the room now ready to crash.  We are in room #2422 and the phone # is 330-344-2724.  We will continue to keep you updated as we know things, but as of now we are going to try and rest.  Thank you for all you prayers, God was with us the entire time, and your prayers girded us.  A special thanks to Beth Sidel who sat with us all night.  She was a great encourager and prayer warrior.  We love you.

Full Day

We are still at the hospital waiting for Levi.  We arrived yesterday a little before 5 pm and have now been waiting for 27 hours.  She has been receiving pitocin since 7 am this morning and is almost at the maximum dosage.  They just came in to check her again and she has made it to a 3.  This is still very slow.  They are hoping that once she hits a 4 the process will drastically speed up.  Her epidural had also stopped working so they needed replaced it.

A dear friend came up to sit with us until Levi gets here.  She wanted to be here in case I had to leave with Levi and go to Akron Children’s.  The doctor came in and broke Amy’s water at about 11 this morning, so they will not let her continue to labor too late into tomorrow morning.  The longer she is in labor, the chances of c section increase.  So, we are praying things begin to move quicker.  They have verified that she will be delivering in the OR as a precautionary measure.

Amy is very tired and VERY hungry.  Because of the medicine, she has not been able to eat since yesterday at lunch.  This morning they let her have some jello and a couple of crackers.  Her body is getting tired.  Please pray that things will begin to pick up in pace.  Pray for Amy’s strength.  Thank you.
